2008 - 2009, Class XIV

 

PERCY ABRAM

Head of School, Gateway School

Percy moved to Santa Cruz in June 2008, with his wife (Nina), five year-old daughter (Claudia), and two year-old son (Carlos) and works as the Head of Gateway School. Gateway School is a Kindergarten – 8th grade independent school on Santa Cruz’s west side. Prior to joining Gateway School, he was the Upper Division Director at Brentwood School in Los Angeles. An LA native, Percy spent his high school years in Walnut Creek, in San Francisco’s East Bay. He received his B.A. (Economics) and M.A. (Education) degrees from UCLA, and received his Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University. Percy remains committed to the issues of social justice, equity, and multiculturalism in schools. He looks forward to meeting local leaders in politics, medicine, business, and environmental and social justice, anticipating that his experiences with LSCC will allow him to learn more about these issues as they pertain to the residents of Santa Cruz County.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

ATTENDANCE

Leadership participants are encouraged to mark their calendars for the 12 class days and Graduation scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2008. The Leadership Program awards a Certificate of Graduation to those individuals who attend 8 or more of the 12 classes. All other class members will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Anyone who is unable to attend a class day must notify Dave Vincent by phone, home 662-3881, cell 419-5007, or e-mail leadershipscc@cruzio.com This will allow an accurate count for lunch, and refreshments.

Orientation Agenda

Agenda: Orientation – Leadership Santa Cruz County
Tuesday, August 26, 2008
Sponsor: Dominican Hospital
Meeting Location: Conference Rooms 1, 2 and 3 located at the lower level of the Hospital

Location and Parking: Dominican Hospital is located at 1555 Soquel Drive. Traveling north on Highway 1 exit on Soquel Drive and turn right on Soquel. You will immediately see the Dominican Hospital campus on your left. Take the first or second entrance to Dominican Hospital and proceed to the parking areas (the main parking lot may be full so check the parking lot in the back, near the Education Building). When traveling south on Highway 1 exit on Soquel; make a right hand turn from the off ramp to the Soquel frontage road, and then another right hand turn to Soquel Ave. proceed on Soquel over Highway 1 and follow the same instructions as those who enter from the northbound direction.

CLass 24 Orientation

Class 24 is shaping up nicely. Preparations are being made for the August 26th Orientation. Dominican Hospital has once again graciously offered to host this. We will be meeting in Rooms 1,2 and 3 located at the lower level of the hospital. Dominican will provide a light buffet meal and you will have an opportunity to meet Dominican Hospital President, Dr. Nanette Mickeiwicz. This meeting will be the starting point of the development of our network of friendships. We will be taking individual photos of everyone (head and shoulder) for the class yearbook this evening.

Even though the formal deadline has passed to sign up for the class there are still a few openings. If you know someone who is interested, they can still join us. Please direct them to this website for all the information they need to apply or have them call Dave Vincent at 662-3881.

Class 24 Applications

It's that time of the year to get ready for Class 24. The application deadline in July 31st. If you know someone who is interested in participating in Leadership Santa Cruz County, please direct them to the LSCC home page to download a copy of the application. For your information, hard copies are being delivered to all the Chambers so they can be picked up there as well. Preparations are already being made for the retreat and subsequent class days. It should be a good year. Please let your friends and co-workers know to get their applications in now as the class fills on a first-com-first-served basis.

Dave Vincent Takes the Helm
