After UCSC, she worked as a marketer for several local companies including Borland and Starfish Software, as well as several high tech companies over the hill. Burning out on commuting Highway 17 every day, she decided to seek a simpler life of a professional dabbler. Turning to writing, she has had a number of features in national and local publications, including the Santa Cruz Sentinel. Although she left the law firm to become a domestic engineer, caring for husband, Michael, and son, Casey, that career was short-lived due to the 1989 Earthquake, when Lorrie took a temporary position with the City of Santa Cruz, City Manager’s office. Her learning is motivated by a deep interest in understanding the larger context for events in our community and world. The breadth and depth of topics covered by the LSCC seminars will provide a significant opportunity to contemplate interconnections and intersections that shape this county on a daily basis.
