CLASS XXIV 2008-2009
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
ATTENDANCE
Leadership participants are encouraged to mark their calendars for the 12 class days and Graduation scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2008. The Leadership Program awards a Certificate of Graduation to those individuals who attend 8 or more of the 12 classes. All other class members will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Anyone who is unable to attend a class day must notify Dave Vincent by phone, home 662-3881, cell 419-5007, or e-mail leadershipscc@cruzio.com This will allow an accurate count for lunch, and refreshments.
You are urged to make every effort to attend as many class days as possible. All classes have high quality speakers who occupy positions of leadership and trust in our community. They provide their expertise voluntarily. This Program is successful because these leaders understand the importance of taking time out of their busy schedules to address the class. It is assumed class members will honor these speakers with their presence.
CLASS HOURS
Classes will generally begin at 8:00 AM with some light refreshments and a chance for networking and general discussion. The class day will begin with a speaker or activity promptly at 8:30 AM and will ends by 4:30 PM. The one exception will be on Environment Day when we travel to the North Coast; we plan to be back by 5:00 PM on that day.
AGENDAS
You will receive an agenda for each class day approximately one or two weeks in advance of the actual session. Since the class never meets twice at the same location, the agenda will list driving and parking instructions for each class day. Should you misplace the agenda, you can always find a copy on the Program’s web page at www.leadershipscc.org.
CARPOOLING
You will be provided with a list of addresses and phone numbers of fellow class members, and you are urged to arrange to carpool. Many locations where we will meet have limited parking for the large Leadership class, and carpooling will help. Carpooling will also enable you to build friendship and network with fellow class members.
PAGERS AND CELL PHONES
Experience has shown that class members who are on-call from their office during class days by pager or cell phone have more erratic attendance and often leave class early. You are expected to show respect to community leaders who volunteer their time to provide this training. Moreover, the noise of pagers and cell phones ringing during training is distracting and disrespectful to your fellow classmates. We urge you to leave all pagers and cell phones at home the day of Leadership training. Please alert your office about this program request. If it is absolutely necessary to have your phone and/or pager, PLEASE put it on courtesy vibrate mode, only answer critical calls and sit in a location that you can leave the Class without much disruption.
REFUNDS
Assuming tuition has been paid, refunds will be granted when a class participant withdraws from the program according to the following schedule:
Withdrawal by September 30 Tuition refund of 80%
Withdrawal by October 31 Tuition refund of 75%
Withdrawal by November 30 Tuition refund of 70%
Withdrawal by December 31 Tuition refund of 65%
No refunds for withdrawals after December 31.
In case of withdrawal from class when full tuition has not yet been paid (i.e. in cases of time payments), the program shall retain tuition paid up to and including the amounts listed in the schedule above.
YEARBOOK BIOGRAPHY
Each year, Leadership Santa Cruz County publishes your bio and picture on the www.leadershipscc.org website and in a Yearbook of the graduating class. Its main feature is the pages that contain the photos and biographies of the Leadership class. This year will be no exception. We will post your biography on the Leadership website at the beginning of the class year so that your classmates can learn more about you. Your biography is due by the first class day on Thursday, September 4th.
The yearbook is presented to all participants and their guests at graduation in June. It is widely distributed to individuals and organizations that provide resources to the program. It is also used as program publicity and sent to potential applicants. Over 1,000 copies will be distributed in the county.
Your biography should be no longer than 150 words of text. Please write in the third person. A Bio Worksheet is provided on the next page.
Please either bring the Bio Worksheet to the class or, if you choose, send it electronically to Dave Vincent at his home email address – vincents4@sbcglobal.net
